  1. Customer experience (CX) efforts remain inconsistent in many organizations, but there are signs of greater commitment and execution for 2020, according to Gartner, Inc. Gartner’s 2019 Customer Experience Management Survey revealed that more than two-thirds of CX leaders expect budget increases in 2020.

  2. There’s no denying that the focus on delivering great customer experiences (CX) has increased globally over the past few years. What once was a luxury that only a few companies had the resources to invest in (think Amazon and Netflix), has now become a staple on the CEO agenda.

In an extremely competitive world where customers demand a personalized experience, really knowing and understanding your customers is so crucial. But how do you do it well? This is where a lot of companies take a wrong turn.

  4. If you have a big growth goal to reach in 2019, you can leverage your customer insights from your Voice of Customer (VOC) data to achieve it. And on the flip side, if you have already invested in a VOC initiative, there are multiple ways you can use this data to influence your company growth.

  5. Customer feedback is the best source we have for collecting the consumer insights we need to improve our businesses. Asking for feedback, analyzing it and implementing product/service fixes where necessary can make all the difference for building brand loyalty and achieving success.

In fact, the most successful businesses today take the thoughts and feelings of their customers seriously. It's been clear to me, offering my company's, Varidesk's, products through Amazon that that retail giant sets the standard. It gathers customer insights, data and feedback, then uses that information to drive innovation in operations.

  6. For retail shoppers, the customer journey often begins with a local mobile search. In fact, 80% of retail shoppers have searched the terms “near me” on their smartphones. After performing local mobile searches, 61% of shoppers go on to call a business, while 59% visit the location. Their calls are often inquiries about inventory and pricing. The higher the price, the more likely retail customers are to call, since expensive purchases are more considered.

In addition, online retail shoppers often call an agent to learn additional product specs, clear up billing issues, and finalize purchases. For retail marketers, these calls to brick-and-mortar locations and contact centers are one of the richest sources of customer insights available.

In order to boost website and marketing ROI, retail marketers and their agency partners should harness the voice of the customer from inbound calls to locations and contact centers to inform their strategy.

  7. Today’s customer experience (CX) programmes provide a crucial opportunity for differentiation beyond price and quality.

Yet, ironically, many organisations are delivering comparable experiences because their CX programmes have hit the same brick wall: they can capture customer insights, but are unable to turn insights into action and drive organisational change – which is the hallmark of a truly world-class programme.

How do you know if you’re one of those stuck in the rut – and how do you push past it?

  8. One small customer insight can lead to millions in extra sales, according to Joe Urbany, professor of marketing at the University of Notre Dame, who spoke at the ADMA Global Forum today.

Urbany, who works with local company, Choice to Growth, and is the co-founder of Vennli, said there is a misalignment between what companies think their customers want, and what they actually want. And it's those gaps that represent financial value.

Closing the gaps can have enormous implications for the financial bottom line of a company. But to do that, organisations have to be brave and be willing to hear things from their customers they may not want to hear.

  9. In superior/subordinate relationships, subordinates often develop negative feelings over time. Part of that is natural -- as with the persnickety teens above -- as we attempt to assert our individuality. Part of it may be the result of poor prior experiences with authority. Part of it may owe to emotional immaturity and inappropriate reactions to having one's ideas challenged. In any event, most of us can recall a time when our own issues caused us to push back against the advice or orders of others. In a CRM context, that tendency can directly endanger efforts to improve sales, support and marketing.

  10. Listening to your customers and taking action to solve their challenges is the first essential step to Customer Success. That’s why Voice of the Customer (VoC) is a critical component to driving company-wide efforts to deliver value and happiness to clients. VoC consists of initiatives designed to capture customer insights, close the loop on feedback, and prioritize improvements to produce happy and successful clients.
